Mid Century Modern Emaux Miel Glazed Candle Holder - Cyclope Pottery Annecy

In 1948 Charles Cart began to operate Le Cyclope pottery in Annecy-le-Vieux in the Haute Savoie region France (it was named after the Rocher du Cyclope - a well known local mountain peak). He registered the brand name La Poterie d'Annecy in 1961.  In 1963 the brand "Le Cyclope, émaux des glaciers, émaux des neiges" was registered.

Cart came from Thonon and was said to have been a scrap merchant who turned to pottery during the Second World War.  Between 1958 and 1973 the pottery employed 3 or 4 potters including Maurice Antonioz, André Ravaud, André Verrien and Jacky Lyard. The company closed in 1980.

This unsigned robust 'emaux miel' glazed candle holder is a good example of the pottery's output - showing the distinctive honey volcanized glaze.
