Vintage tin glazed Mazagran by Roger Capron

Vintage tin glazed Mazagran by Roger Capron 1922-2006

In 1946 Roger Capron, Robert Picault and Jean Derval founded L'Atelier Callis in Vallauris. It was here that Picault and Picasso were exchanging information, so it is no surprise to see some Picasso type influences in the ceramic and sculptural pieces.

In 1952 Capron opened a small ceramic factory with 15 employees. Here he established a considerable international reputation with his contemporary 'one-off' pieces.

By 1980 the factory had grown to 150 employees, but only continued until it closed in 1982.
Then in 1983 he created The Atelier Capron.

He died in 2006.

It is likely that this mazagran (a ceramic goblet especially made for coffee) was produced and painted by Capron between 1952 and 1982. The flowing painting style indicates a confident hand revealing a greater expression

There is some crazing to the outside, otherwise this is in excellent condition - no scratches, chips, or cracks.
